RPM Dependencies
 

I'm running RH9 is it just me, 7 out of 10 RPM's I d/l either do nothing at all or are dependant on other files/rpm's that i don't have or can't find?
not to convienant. If nobody else has this problem let me know what i'm doing wrong :)

1) Use commandline to install them by doing
rpm -i packagename
2) For most of them you have to install them as root.
3) Post any error messages that you get.
4) Not many people have those kind of problems as rpm's are really easy to use :D

I have installed a few that have gone fine. with rpm -i I also picked up adding vv so i can see what it is doing basiclly i'm having alot of them failing for dependencies i just tried installing xine the page said to d/l all 3 packages each package failed due to it being dependent on the other two. I also tried installing all three in one shot same thing. on one as it was listing the files it needed it would say "missing filename (glibc)" but if i run up2date it says i'm up to date....BUT if I try to run "check for updates" it says unable to connect th RHN so maybe i'm not...i dunno? after my os install all updates worked great but now that i'm trying to get up to 100% nothing but probs.

Try searching for any dependencies on http://rpm.pbone.net. RH Update will tell you your up to date. It's mostly for paying customers. You may also want to try apt-get.

I've found the --test option very useful for verifying that all the dependencies are satisfied, ESPECIALLY when 'freshen'ing the glibc...

Now, unless you post exact failed dependency we wont be able to tell you what the problem is. Up2date has nothing to do with your failed dependencies as failed dependencies are missing files which are needed by your rpm package. Just post the errors and we will look at it :D

ok I just installed apt from the link zovres gave me. it put it in /etc/apt but how do I run it? none of the file i see are exec?

thanks for the xine link Jatt_Thugs the install went fine. I think i'm looking in all the wrong places does anybody have a link to get the java plugin for mozilla i've d/l'd like 5 of them none work.
