From rpm.org
Quote:

The current release, RPM-4.1, shipped in Red Hat Linux 8.0, and has growing pains. Some people are experiencing symptoms of a 'hung' process. In some instances, rpm will indicate a need to 'recover' its database. See: here for a discussion and fix. See also generally: here for other errata.
Couldn't care less if you bother to read it, not my problem, I'll simply try to point you in the right direction the rest is up to you. Seemed to fix mine when that happened to me.

you have to type all those commands?

Awatto 11-12-2003 09:19 PM

I forget exactly which I used, but taking a quick glance this looks like what you have (as I see you are using RH9)

Quote:

[Note: if using rpm-4.2 as in Red Hat Linux 9 and later, use:
cd /var/lib/rpm /usr/lib/rpm/rpmdb_verify Packages
instead, as the db4 version code used differs. Thanks again to M A Young for suggesting this caveat addition in June 2003.]

If there are any errors, repair by doing

mv Packages Packages-ORIG /usr/lib/rpm/db_dump Packages-ORIG | \ /usr/lib/rpm/db_load Packages
