Hi. I'm a newbie for both linux and the forum.
Here's my question.

I have a PC and installed debian (latest stable release).
It has 2 NICs ( eth0 and eth1)
I want to make the PC a router ( to get internet from eth0 and be able to share, stop and shape the internet to the other PCs from my eth1)

As I said- I'm a newbie, so plz tell me a link to(or explain me here) complete step by step user guide how to do that.

There are a lot of ways to configure Linux to be a router, but based on your description, it sounds like you want to set up IP Masquerading (e.g. Network Address Translation and routing). The best guide to this I've found is this HOWTO but it may be a little advanced for a newbie. Feel free to ask questions back here if you get stuck.

But what about shaping the speed of the users ?
I want to be able to do that by ip and mac adress....

There are ways to use iptables to handle traffic shaping. I don't have much of any experience with this, but Googling for Linux traffic shaping should help. For example, I found this Web page with some basic information.

Well you can setup Iptables which has already been suggested, or you could turn the system into a firewall. I have a pIII setup with three nic's running Smoothwall-firewall. After setup it's a headless system, so you don't need a monitor. If you have more than one pc going to be connected to it, you will need a switch (preferred) or hub.

You can do everything you asked about and a lot more, portforwarding, filtering, you can set a time limit on when and how long you want a specific pc to have access to the internet.

I tried version 2.0 it worked fine on a pII but it lacked some of the features in 3.0. But if you use 3.0 you will need at least a pIII. Or should I say I never had any luck installing 3.0 on a PII.

Edit: I should note the reason I have three nics, one will go to my wireless router.

OK, a lot of suggestions, but as I said I need a "step by step" guidance how exactly to do everything.
So be more specific plz. what software and how to install it. how to configure ip tables (examples plz) e.g. What and how to do first, then next ...

P.S. I'm a complete Newbie for linux...

I guess noone seems to be helpful enough to write how to do all in steps and examples... :(
