router dhch and ip address's

Hello,
Last night I turned off my Linux box (it had the ip of 192.168.1.100) and left my laptop on which had the ip of 192.168.1.101 assigned by the linksys router.

Now here comes the problem, the router is set to forward port requests to 192.168.1.100, so how do I get my Linux box to stay at 192.168.1.100 all the time.

We have 4 computers hooked up to this linksys router, and I've put the time for lease to the maximum, but if it gets shut down........

Help please.

The answer is reasonlably simple: you need to setup static dns for each of your computers that you want to keep static ip's for on the router. Linksys does support that feature somewhere. Where exactly it is, depends on the model you have.

Use static ip's for the computers you need to have static IP that's outside of dhcp range but still on the same subnet.

Cheap hack-around solution but it should work.
