root password changed
Last night i had an unusual problem with my fedora 10 machine.
It was openSolaris 9 that i downloaded from the official website. It was after the download that i wanted to close the internet connection and i found that everytime i gave my root password the authentication failed. i tried restarting the system and it was the same story again. i was even more surprise to find that another user named "Oracle" was created and i don't even know about it. i was wondering if that user could have changed the root password but then again HOW???? i had to reload fedora again in order to get things right. can anybody please help me to find out what actually happened. |

Now that you have 'restored' fedora, i assume you mean re-installed? So might be a bit hard for you to find out what really happened... I suggest installing some IDS from now on. |

Had i forgotten the password how could i have started the net connection. And i have been using the same password for all the protected systems that i use(i mean the system in my college or even my mobile device).. how could i forget the password???? and even that be so waht about the new user. |
Hello,
Can you specify what you mean by 'reload' Fedora? Is it a virtual server and did you revert to a previous image? If so, then you'll have lost your logs which are the best place to start looking for some odd things that happened. Kind regards, Eric |
just stating the obvious, is the keyboard layout correct ?
|
Well, a wag (wild a** guess) is that, given Oracle has bought Sun, maybe you clicked on download+install(!), not just download....

i opened the file passwd and confirmed it that a separate user named oracle was formed. how could it change the root password??????? i had to reinstall fedora after that. even i remember that the keyboard layout was the same. |
