Angry Root file system

Hi guys ,

Well i am a newbie to linux.
I started reading about Linux boot process from IBM resources and now i got stuck with the Root file system and initrd process.

Here are my doubts..

1)Root file system means a separate file system similar to ext4 ,Fat,etc or it is to denote the file system over which the root directory is mounted.

2)Whether initrd and initramfs are types of file systems similar to ext4 ,fat etc.

3)if so then initrd and initramfs are allowed to only used as root file systems.

Please guys reply as soon as possible.Badly I am stucked for past one week.
