root cannot delete file!

Hi all,

I've got a file that I can't do anything with: chmod, chown or delete while logged in as root! When I do "ls -l" I see:
Quote:
-rw-rwxrwx 33 dsmith root 2230941 Nov 18 14:26 09000-ns.pdf
The user "dsmith" is NOT a member of the "root" group. I'm not sure what the "33" means, all other files in the directory only have a "1" in this location. Attempting to do anything to this file returns "Operation not permitted". BTW, the pdf won't open either.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Time to do a File System Check (fsck) as it sounds likely that there is some corruption.

Hi,

Which error message does the chmod/chown/rm command give?

Could you post the output of:
ls -bil 09000-ns.pdf
file 09000-ns.pdf
lsof 09000-ns.pdf

Also post the output of "pwd" and "mount" because this might be an NFS mount you're not allowed to change.

I think that file you want to delete is in NFS.
Like what I found before..

And to add on to the list of suggestions, also post the output of:
# lsattr <stubborn file>

(assuming that this is actually on a ext2/3 filesystem)
