So you want to modify your root partition from inside of Windows XP?
Natively Windows doesn't support any of the Linux/Unix-y filesystems that I'm aware of, including HFS/HFS+. There is free software out there called ext2fs, that if it's still around, added support for ext2 and ext3 drives to Windows. Since it was originally designed for ext2 though, I'm not sure I would try messing with your root partition, since it's probably either ext3 or ext4. You could royally break something by using a 3rd party driver to hack your way in from Windows. If you really want to give it a try though, just google "ext2fs".
