Role-based permissions

I know how to set up rule-based permissions, but my class project is requiring me to assign "role-based". Basically, I have five different groups, and users within those groups need to have different levels of access to different folders.

For example, say I have a folder called "accounting". one group (say, "finance") needs to have read and write access, another ("supervisors") needs just read, and one more ("temps") has no access at all.

I'm accessing the folder from a WinXP client with it mapped as a network drive. How would I set multiple levels of permissions to multiple groups for the same folder?

i don't think you can. there is a large change in windows rights and linux rights.

you got the userrights, and grouprights, and others.
i could of course be mistaken, but i never seen more then 1 group on the rights

i think what i'm going to try is mapping the folders to the windows 2003 server, and then map THOSE to the XP machine.

unless anyone can think of a way to do it all straight from the linux to the XP side, this looks like it's all i can do.

Take a look at RSBAC, if Linux permissions is what you require.
