Riptide and SuSE 9.1

Hiya

I installed SuSE 9.1 on my sister's computer which is a HP model (similar to mine) and everything is working fine except no sound.

We went to Linuxant site and went to the driver download section, the HCF driver (needed to work with riptide) was supported by the OS and kernel so downloaded it and then looking at the riptide section, there's no support for the OS - only SuSE 9.0. I looked at the bottom and it said Generic packages with source and downloaded the RPM version "(use on RPM-based systems like Mandrake/RedHat/SuSE with custom or unsupported kernels)". The only problems are:

Installing HCF modem produced an error:

Quote:

rpm -e hcfpcimodem

Removing hcfpci driver from /lib/modules/2.6.4-52-default/misc/
linux:/home/lsan/Documents # rpm -i hcfpcimodem-1.01lnxt04062300full_k2.6.4_52_default-1suse.i586.rpm

If you need license keys, assistance or more information, please go to:

When reporting a problem for the first time, please send
us the file generated by "hcfpciconfig --dumpdiag".

Pre-built driver modules that seem compatible with your system were found under
/usr/lib/hcfpcimodem/modules/binaries/linux-2.6.4-52-default.

ERROR: no device detected by hcfpci driver

Installing the riptide:

Quote:

When reporting a problem for the first time, please send
us the file generated by "ripconfig --dumpdiag".
grep: /proc/ksyms: No such file or directory
/usr/sbin/ripconfig: line 499: [: too many arguments

This package does not contain pre-built modules suitable for your system:
Distribution: SuSE-9.1
Kernel arch: i686
Kernel version: linux-2.6.4-52-default

Trying to automatically re-compile the modules..
(this requires a C compiler and proper kernel sources to be installed)

WARNING: missing file /usr/src/linux/include/linux/autoconf.h
The cause of this problem is usually a missing or misconfigured
kernel source tree (and sometimes an incorrect directory or symbolic link).

First, ensure that the proper kernel source and compiler packages
from your distribution vendor and/or the community are installed.

The Linux kernel can then be reconfigured by running "make menuconfig"
under the kernel source directory (usually /usr/src/linux).

Verify that the proper options for your system are selected,
and that CONFIG_SMP ("Symmetric multi-processing support" under
"Processor type and features") is disabled, as this driver is
presently designed to work on single-processor machines.

Then compile and install your new kernel (for more information about
this procedure, see the README file under the kernel source directory),
reboot the system using the new kernel, and re-run "ripconfig".
error: %post(riptide-0.6lnxtbeta03122800-1) scriptlet failed, exit status 1
Sorry I'm still quite new to this and any help with these two problems is greatly appreciated.

Thanks - Jane
