RHEL6 2.6.32 Machine hanging at boot NETDEV_UNREGISTER lo

Okay, I've been given a Linux machine and have managed to get myself messed up somehow.

Basically, my machine seems to hang when I try to boot, I just get a black screen with a flashing cursor.

I shut it down using the power button, and tried the "Failsafe Boot".

I get screens full of stuff (with green OKs), and then it hangs with the last line displaying:

libfcoe_device_notification: NETDEV_UNREGISTER lo

At this point I have no idea what to do! How can I debug/fix resolve this issue? How can I get the graphical interface back. (The last thing I did before this happened was run a system-config-display package, which was hopefully to create a xorg.conf file)

Is there a way to manually get into the file system and remove/rename that file? Anything else I can try?

I have a flashing cursor after the NETDEV_UNREGISTER lo line - is there some sort of command I can enter and if so how?

run the system in runlevel 1.
after login.
take the backup of xorg.conf to xorg.conf.bak and remove orginal
xorg.conf.
Then restart the system

Reference to start in runlevel 1. http://sharadchhetri.com/2009/03/10/...n-run-level-1/
Method is same for Redhat 6.x versions
