Unhappy RHEL5 not reading any DVD or CD

hi,

i am using RHEL 5 on my machine the problem i am having is my computer is not reading any DVD or CD i may want to play

this is not a hardware Fault as when i tried to boot my machine from the RHEL5 DVD it detects the drive and boot the machine

Now when i insert a DVD or CD in the Drive with RHEL5 running it recognizes that a dvd or cd has been inserted but it does not displays the content
tried to check on the issu but on the dmesg logs say "cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!"

what can be done to resolve the issue.
also, can you let me know is there a Device manager in RHEL%

[root@localhost media]# dmesg | tail
e1000: eth0: e1000_watchdog: NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full Duplex
e1000: eth0: e1000_watchdog: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
e1000: eth0: e1000_watchdog: NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full Duplex
e1000: eth0: e1000_watchdog: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready
eth0: no IPv6 routers present
cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!

K3b is a burner program; it should be able to tell you what kind of disk you have in the drive.

Can you mount the device by hand, e.g.:

mkdir /mnt/cdrom (if /mnt/cdrom doesn't already exist)
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom (note: your CD drive might have a different name than /dev/cdrom -- e.g. /dev/dvd or /dev/scd0 if SATA).

If this works you should see the contents of the CD in /mnt/cdrom.

Finally, have you made sure thatthe CD is good by testing it on another machine?
