i am trying to learn RHEL so can i learn RHEL using redhat 5.0 on my desktop machine.!
Also I have a query regarding usage of internet on my redhat pc.So pls suggest me which data card should i purchase so that i can use internet smoothly on my linux pc.

what do you mean by "data card"? A NIC? just about any 100mbps card will be just fine. Some bleeding edge gigabit cards can struggle, so just buy something cheap. $20 is too much. And that'll work fine.

also be aware that RHEL 5.0 is ancient and NOT updated with the current RHEL 5.9 updates
5.0 dates from "2007-03-14" when it was released

you might want to upgrade to the current 5.9 in the older 5 series
or install RHEL 6.4 ( the current in the current 6 series )

contact your red hat sales rep and you can transfer the rhel5 license you DID buy to rehl6.4

if you did not buy the required support contract then do not use red hat
instead install one of the FREE rebuilds

I also wondered what a data card is. Looking at LIJO MATHAI's other posts, I think I understand that refers to a card for connecting to some wireless internet service in India.

The wired kind has for a long time been at the level of just about any wired interface works "out of the box" with any Linux distribution, and the end user never needs to even think about the driver.

Wireless is more likely to require finding and configuring the correct driver.

I don't begin to have a clue how wireless in other countries differs from wireless in the USA. But I would expect it varies more by country than other aspects of computers.

As per your reply i guess that my Redhat Enterprise linux 5.5 desktop will not help me in learning.,
So pls tell me which OS will suit better, also pls confirm whether i have to uninstall my current version of linux.

Again, as has been said before, load the latest version of CentOS. You were told this before, too:

Do you mean you have the ISO images, or have them INSTALLED??? If you want to learn Red Hat, then you only really NEED Red Hat. Again, load the latest version of CentOS.

you are aware that every one of those are NOT supported , they are all to old

backteack 4 -- VERY OLD
the current is 5 release 3 ( and that IS OLD )
it is also for EXPERTS , and to be USED by experts

Linuxmint 12 -- old
mint 14 is current

Slackware linux 13.0 -- old
14 is current

Cent os 5.3 -- VERY OLD
the current in the older 5 series is 5.9
With CentOS 6.3 the current

Suse 11.0
NON FREE
Suse Enterprise Linux Desktop 11 - needs a license

Opensuse 11.1 -- very old and unsupported -- and so is OpenSUSE 11.2,11.3,and 11.4
the current is Opensuse 12.2

Wouldn't it that centos6.3 be a better startup choice ?
