RHEL AS V3 accepting ICH7R LSI Logic Embedded SATA RAID controller driver
I'm trying to set up a new ASUS RAID5 Server to run RHEL AS v3 and Red Hat is not reconizing my ICH7R LSI Logic Embedded SATA RAID controller driver after I make a copy of it onto a floppy from the Driver CD.
Red Hat tries to read the driver but I'm thinking that Red Hat is either not updated for the driver or something may be wrong with the driver loads.
Has anyone else had this problem with Red Hat AS V3 or this particular driver?
The RAID controllers built into most motherboards (including the ICH7R) are not true hardware RAID, they rely on the operating system for their functioning and as far as I know are limited to use in Windows. You would be better off with a true hardware RAID card such as 3Ware, Areca, setc. or use software RAID which is actually quite reliable these days.
