RHEL 6.5 basic server

i am new to linux .i have installed RHEL 6.5 (desktop version) on my ibm server. Firstly when i installed the basic server, then after installation it ask about login and password. But when i entered the password a message display 'Incorrect password'
Secondly i installed the desktop version.
Can you please tell me that:
-is there any way that i can install a basic server in desktop version.
-Or a password issue in basic server.

Normally a RedHat based system should ask you to specify the password for the root user during the install procedure.
You might want to start with a simple one first just to ensure you can get in - even write it down so long as you change it later.
Note that it will be case sensitive and you should ensure you specify both the correct lang to install as default and keyboard type if asked.

Also note that for an actual RHEL (RedHat Enterprise Linux) install, you MUST pay for a subscription to RedHat to get updates and support.
If you want free, go with Centos (effectively a free rebuild of RHEL) BUT you only get free updates ie you'll have to do your own support.

HTH

PS: Just to clarify, you can install all kinds of software on RHEL/Centos, regardless of the original install.

There was no error during installation. During installation there is a big warning that says setup root password and setup user. If you ignored those the system cannot be blamed since the information requested was not answered.

Please see the installation manual on the redhat documentation page. It will guide you step by step through all the required processes.

Centos 6.x and 7.x will work fine
