RHEL 6.1 screenlock not unlocking

After a successful login as a normal user, I then activate the screenlock, and step away. Upon my return, I type in my password, but it does not unlock. I used this same password to login with... whatsup???

Are you also the administrator (root) user? Are you at the physical machine, able to do a 'CTRL-F2' in order to get a text login?

If both are true, you could check log files to see what's going wrong. Are there any messages on screen, like password failure? or is your password seemingly accepted but without the actual unlock happening?

Hi rhoekstra - Thanks for the response!!!

I am the sys admin of the machine, but my user is having the issue...

Here is the exact mess he gets when he types the password in (to unlock):

UNLOCKING FAILED

He of course logged in successfully to begin with... ugh.

He then logs into another machine, ssh's over to this "problem" machine and kills the lock process, so he can continue work.

I'll see if he can do a CTRL-F2 to get a text login.

is the "lock screen" set to display the default "black screen" of the screensaver ?
or is it going into "hibernation"

as i recall the early rhel6 had a hibernation issue that i think has now been fixed by 6.5
