Do you get a boot menu and when you select Red Hat this happens?
Are you able to boot xp?
How did you install Red Hat, CD/DVD? other method?

i think rhel doesn't recognize your graphic card.

you DO realize that 5.0 is VERY old, older than your laptop. RHEL5.0 might NOT support your hardware .
Why are you using rhel5.0 and not the current RHEL5.6 or RHEL 6.1 ?
6.1 might support your laptop .

Keep in mind that RHEL was NEVER intended to be ran on laptops
so support for some of the laptop hardware might not work .
sound may or may not work
the mouse pad may or may not work
the 3d chip may or may not work - if not then NO gui .

RHEL 5.x is still in support and if the system is in HCL it should be no problem. On the other side why not call Redhat?

Also it would be nice to know what system you are exactly using and what hardware is built in.
