RHEL 4 AS - Display Resolution doesn't change?
I tried changing my screen resolution to 640x480.. restart.. the resolution still remains the same.. and then change it back to 800x600.. still the same.. i also want to increase the resolution to 1024x768 but i can't seem to do it.. the vid card could take 1024x768 in windows environment... any suggestions?

there is a glitch with enterprise linux and some video cards, in order to get the changes to take effect, run the following
/usr/bin/redhat-config-xfree86 --reconfig this is the same as running the resolution changing tool only with a command switch, then change your resolution, log out, and log back in and your change should be saved this was a problem in my training classroom for RHEL 3 --adam |
thanks adam.. but i tried what you said and it's not working... i listed the directory in /usr/bin and cannot find "redhat-config-xfree86"
i'm pretty new w/ linux btw |
ok, try /usr/bin/system-config-xfree86 --reconfig
they changed the path of that since RHEL 3, do a locate for xfree86 and find something that says something about configuring xfree86 |
can't find system-config-xfree86 but i found system-config-display.. when i clicked on that it gives me the "Display" window and i'm back to square one.. i can change it to 800x600 but it will still keep my resolution at 640x480...
|
allright, well if you found that, try running it from command line with that command line switch "--reconfigure"
|
well.. i figured it out.. after changing the color depth to 256.. i was able to chang ethe resolution... thanks for your help adam! very much appreciate your help...
|
np man, and btw, it is --reconfig
sorry bout that, but it did work :-D --adam |

Try to install VMware Tools
Hi, i have same problem with you.
I just install VMware Tools( it comes with both tar.gz and rpm package ) after install VMware Tools, you need to run VMware configuration tool by issue command "vmware-config-tool.pl" and select appropriate screen resolution to what you want. Good Luck Man. |
