rh9 boots to command line when inittab set to 5

Hi, I have just installed RH9.0 and set it to boot to GUI but it booted to this text screen I have never seen before. It's not the normal commandline prompt you see when inittab default runlevel is set to 3. there is the blue bckground you usually see with the gui desktop and the text/commandline window has a green bar across the top with bob@localhost in it and a scroll bar on the left, and text is colour coded.
I opened the inittab file and default runlevel is set to 5 the x11 option and x server is running. I have obviously set some option to get this but have no idea what. How can I swap back to the normal desktop?

I like this text mode but need to be able to bring up the desktop when I need to.

any help appreciated.

Bob

I'm a noobie myself...but I just went through something similar. In my inittab when the runlevel is 5, it defaults back to 3...but when I set it to 4, it finally gave me back my gui login manager. Hope this helps...

some helpful commands I learned:
startx
kstart

Hi just tried that and rebooted and I got the usual text login black screen white text, so I did startx hoping to get the gui, and got what I had before. I think its called "trm".
