RH 9 Installation Problem - Screen floating

Hi,

I'm a new forum user. And here is probably an old problem:
I'm trying to install Redhat 9 on my computer. After I'm asked in which manner I'd like to install Redhat 9 and no matter which mode I select the screen starts floating(the icons&writing doubles and waves are floating in the middle of the screen).

The problem is probably that I'm using a very old screen:Synco GM 14VS.
However, when I start my system with Win pro I don't have any problem.

Windows xp without problem :

resolution 640x480 - colours 24 bite
Graphic card SiS 5598/6326

I think what I need to know is how to tell the computer to use 24 bite, because using the command : linux resolution=640x480 gives me the same bad results.

Thanks everybody

Try vga=769. That (or some other number) should fix the text-mode.

Hi aaa,

thanks a lot, it worked. However, I don't know why. Is there a link or something where I can instruct myself?

Hi aaa,

it's again me. When RH 9 is installing everything is fine, however after the componet check the screen starts floating again.
I tried linux vga=769skipddc, but the result is the same.
What must I do?

'vga=' is an option passed to the kernel when it starts telling it what resolution the console should be. It does not affect the gui, X. Try adding the 'text' option, too, to install in text-mode. Then you can fine-tune X afterward.
