RH 9 and NTL BB

Hi - I know there's been lods of threads about this previously, but none seem to have fixed my prob, or at least I haven't applied the advice correctly, being a newbie....

I have RH9 installed as a dual boot with win2k - win2k has been on themachine for years and the NIC (3com 905c) was registered with NTL under this OS. I just cant get RH9 to see my net connection.

When directly connected to the settop box, with configure using DHCP set I get an error when booting into linux saying that the card couldn't be activated due to lack of connection and to check that the cable is connected...booting into win2k it's fine.

If I then connect the box back to my router (netgear rp614) and boot into linux with gateway set to 192.168.0.1, IP of linux box set to 192.168.0.2, subnet set to 255.255.255.0 it activates the NIC on boot, but I can't then get past the router - I can ping the router but cant ping my win xp box thats also connected to it. Yet I can ping the linux box from the win xp box.

So based on that it looks like the NIC is ok, as it's seeing the router when I manually configure network settings, but why won't linux automatically pickup settings when connected directly to the STB?

I'm confused and being a linux newbie am bound to have missed something.

Any advice gratefully received.

Regards

Spev

Im a newbie so this could be very wrong---

I have a linksys router and by typing in the router's ip i can configure it and in there I found what my DNS to my ISP is. You probably dont have that configured properly.
