RH 9 agonizingly slow this am

Not sure why. The graphic interface takes forever to load, especially the splash screen that shows what it is checking.

I noticed on bootup that cannaserver was taking forever to load, so I did some research and figured I didn't need that. Took it off startup list in Webmin. Also noticed sendmail was taking forever and took that off startup list.

The only thing I can think of that I did differently is that I forgot to stick a tape in for last night's cron backup job.

I am using it for a webserver (Apache 2.0.40). Would appreciate any help since I don't want to monkey with something I'm not sure about.

TIA,
Bob Irving

"Not sure why. The graphic interface takes forever to load, especially the splash screen that shows what it is checking. "

You can use the top command to see what is running and what is using all of the system resources. See:
man top

Start top in one alternate console, start the GUI in a second alternate console, and switch back to the first alternate console to watch top.

Jailbait, thnx for t the advice. For some reason, it all started speeding up by the afternoon. But I'll keep the top command in mind. Have a feeling it might have been the backup running....
