This I know but I want to run a windows programe
in Linux and I read about Wine!!!! Can I run Windows programes in Linux....

trickykid 01-02-2002 12:37 AM

yeah, you can using an emulator like wine, but it has to be installed and properly configured. also wine is still a bit unstable, you can try an alternative like Win4Lin or vmWare..

Hermit 01-02-2002 07:47 AM

Yes Wine and VM Ware
I used Wine but not VM Ware I will try VM
I saw it on Cnet isent Lin4Win a command you can use for installing Mandreak 8.1????
I used Mandreak 8.1 I have 8.0 too
But I went with Red Hat 7.2 because it works
better on my system.... I just want to run this one only one..Winduh programe...
how do I do this???? this is tyhe only problem Iam haveing do I have to compile?? do I have to rename?? the app... what do I have to do

well, i only know the basic of Wine and dont really use it but it depends on what you want to run and open, sometimes it is easier and sometimes it is ver hard to configure to get working.

You said Lin4Win which is a program to install and have a linux window running in windows.. i mentioned Win4Lin which you can have the windows desktop as a separate process running within linux... its faster than vmware and doesn't use as much resources.
