Restoring MBR :partitions are detected only after the reboot after MBR restoration?
 

Hi here is my problem,
I have deleted a hard disk from my RAID card and when I booted the linux & executed fdisk command it gave error saying that it has an invalid partition table entry. I had the backup MBR of that hard disk so I deployed it.But the actual partitions in that disk are not detected until I reboot the system. To be more precise the /dev/ file for that perticular partition.
But I have not faced this problem in any other situation when I restore MBR the system would have created the /dev/ files corresponding to that MBR.
Any reasons for this & any solutions?

Hi,

The (restored) MBR will be written at reboot. When you restore it, you allready passed the writing of the MBR process.

How is your system build, how many disks?, are they identical?

The system had Identical drives, 3 drives of 36.4 GB.
But this problem doesn't exist when I restore the MBR containing 4 partitions to a hard disk containing 2 partitions. During this process it created the extra 2 partitions without any reboot.so the MBr restoration showed it's response without rebooting & I have tried to capture the MBR of the restored hard disk without rebooting & I got the MBR that I have restored.so the MBR must have been written before the reboot.So any other reason or solutions?
