restore images...

hello and good day to all...im trying to make an image (bit for bit) of a MACOS X system from Hiren's Boot CD. it has a linux based parted so here is my setup:

sdd2 is the mac os x system (not mounted)

/tb3/macos.img from device file /dev/sda (mounted target for the image i get from dd)

im using hiren's so when i pull up a terminal im already root user..

dd if=/dev/sdd bs=64M conv=noerror,sync | 7z a -v x=9 s=on mt=on -t7z >/3tb/macos.img

and i also tried this:

dd if=/dev/sdd bs=64M conv=noerror,sync | bzip2 -z -k -v -9 >/3tb/macos

TIA

i forgot to ask about (stdin) is that supposed to be showing when it starts imaging?

You won't get any input/output until its done, dd doesn't give out status updates.

I've only done it 1x, when I had a failing drive, in which it just copied everything to new drive.
