Question Restart with backup/restore - DSL

In Damn Small Linux when I edit a file and save it after reboot the file remain the same. Why?

I tried to restart using backup/restore but I don't understand what device to add !?
ERROR MESSAGE:
"Invalid Device:
or bad entry in filetool.lst
Check /tmp/backup.status"

I use VMware. I tried with DSL liveCD.

PS: I don't understand the DSL wiki page (http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/persistence.html)

thx

Hi:
I'm not running Damn Small Linux but I'll give this a go and help you the best I can till other members using your distro chime in.

When you right click on your desktop do you have the option to go to backup/restore and than choose your device?

The example in the wiki shows (hda1/sda1) this means the first partition on your first hard disk drive that is recoginized.

Your most likely editing your file correctly. However, after you saved the changes (from what I read in the link you provided) you also have to edit the /opt/.filetool.lst as well.
Then click 'add t2Filetool'

The /opt/.filetool.list is a list of files to backup.
