resources for newbies?

Hi. I am a total newbie to linux, but i really wish to learn it and become good at it, basically because i mostly agree to the negative views about windoze. I am currently slowly learning thru the help of this forums and man pages, but i was wondering if there are any webpages or documents which provide a rather nice overview of the structure of the linux operating system and/or its distros, so that i can get a better overall concept of how it works, where its binaries/configuration files are usually stored, etc.
