Resolutions not working on Dell Inspiron 8600, WSXGA+, Fedora Core 2, nVidia
Hey, I have also posted this on the fedora mailing list a couple of hours ago, but noone could help me there so far.
I installed the nvidia drivers, the logo is showing up alright, so those should be working.
I searched on the internet and am using the same (I think) xorg.conf configuration than other people with exactly the same laptop, linux and screen. They say it works.
I have been googling a bit, haven't found much, pls help me out here...
What I basically want is the 1680 x 1050 resolution. However, it doesn't work...
Here is the log:

using the newest nvidia drivers? i get a message saying that the riva fbdev module is incompatible with the nvidia driver. i think u'll have to use the normal/standard console if u want nice X. (hehe, say that fast)
Hi,
I was having the same problem, until tonight I used the exact same XF86Config configuration as yours and downloaded the NVIDIA drivers again.(NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8762-pkg1.run) Something seems to have changed and I got a beautiful 1680 x 1050 display going!!
I am pretty sure the problem will disappear for you too once you download theinstaller and reinstall now.

FC 2 is a bit thinking back, but I want to start with saying that the X11 implantation in FC2 was a bit of both sides (X11 and Xfree86). As the original release was a merger of the previous official X11R6 release, XFree86 4.4.0rc2, and to help you probably you want to check if you run the correct version of X11.
Some drivers have problems or do not work with older versions.
