Resolution problem in Gnome

hi guys i have a problem with my resolution, im a kind of a nebie to linux and i recently installed FC3, the driver it took for my GFX card was a Generic Geforce 2 which was correct, but the maximum resolution it supported was 800 x 600 for some wired unknown reason my monitor doesnt support that resolution, i get a kind of a bent display when i put it on,

so i changed the generic monitor driver to something similar to my actual monitor and i was able to set resolutions above that, and the preferred resolution of 1024 x 768, when i put this resolution my secreen goes to the correct size but only in KDE and in the Login screen of FC3.

i want to use Gnome and Gnome doesnt seem to change it's resolution why? (i still have the bent shape screen) any help wud be appereicated

thanks

p.s - i have used other distros before.. like Knoppix and Redhat9 they took the things fine, and btw.. i did install the latest drivers from Nvidia

Have you tried modding the XF86Config or xorg.conf file? (Usually located in /etc/X11 or /etc)

Look under the screen section and see if you have entries above 800x600.

If these are already set, try a ctrl-alt-( - or + )

Good luck.
