Resolution Problem Debian 5.0.7

Hi, I am relatively new to Linux and I am currently running Debian 5.0.7. I am having a problem with my screen resolution. My monitor can handle a resolution of 1920x1080 but in Debian the highest resolution I can go is 1400x1050. I fixed this by installing the proper ATi drivers and it worked, my res was at 1920x1080 but the graphics were very laggy when I moved windows and scrolled web pages. I could not figure out how to fix this. All of a sudden today when I booted up, my res went back to what it was when I first installed Debian as if I didn't even install the drivers. I can't find a solution to my problems so any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

We need more info to help you:
1. Which ATI card are you using?
2. Which driver do you have installed, the one from the repositories or the one from ATI's website? And how have you done it?
3. Can you please post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log ?

1. The card I am using is a Radeon HD 4890
2. I downloaded this: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...2&lang=English and to install it I typed in the command: sudo sh file.run
3. xorg.conf:

Every once in a while when I boot in Debian the resolution will be 1920x1080, this is what it's at now, but I don't know why it will change from 1920x1080 to 1400x1050 every couple of startups. But when it is in 1920x1080 the graphics are very laggy and slow.
