Required Audio Drivers for Linux Flash?

I have tried for three days now to figure out how to get FlashPlayer to work properly on my system. I have an AMD Athelon chip, an ASUS A7N266-E MB with built-in NVidia digital audio chip. I can play audio CDs with no problem. I can play wav files no problem. mp3 files play with no problem. Only Flash gives me audio problem. The audio comes out sounding like cartoon chipmonks. I have installed, re-installed, and then again re-installed. I have tried browsing through every thread I can think of looking through.
Is there something inherently incompatible with NVidia and FlashPlayer for Linux? I am able to enjoy FlashPlayer when I am using Windows XP.
Do I need this ALSA driver I've read about?
