Report about XFree 4.4.0

Report from a newbie about the latest release from XFree. Having just installed Mandrake 9.2 on my laptop without glitches, I ran into the resolution issues attached to the Intel chipset (i810). Since XFree 4.4.0 reportedly takes care of such issues I tackled its installation. I went the automated way (Xinstall.sh) and everything went fine until reboot, where stuff didn't load. I'm still working on the problem, but it seems that Mandrake uses 'XF86Config-4' instead of 'XFConfig' so that Xinstall erases the former, replaces it by the latter, wich can't be read at 'startx'.
At least that's my understanding so far.
Thought that this would be of interest to those with res problems (huge desktop) and to those who ran into similar problems with 4.4.0...
Expert advice would be appreciated too...

XFree > 4.0 use XF86Config-4, it's not just Mandrake. Installing XF4.4 doesn't affect this as far as I have found.
