Replacing MBR
 

I, unfortunately, had to reinstall Windows.

I have a linux boot partition on the same drive as my Windows partition, in order to run the boot manager.

When reinstalling windows it re-wrote the MBR of the drive to go directly to the Windows partition, hda3, instead of the linux boot manager, hda1.


Is there a way I can fix this without reinstalling linux?
Is there either a floppy out there, or a way I can do it via my linux install cd?


Using Mandrake 10.2
Boot manager is LILO

Easy
Just put the Mandrake CD into the drive on start-up and when the first screen come up select the option to rescue, which I think from memory means you have to type "rescue",

Then you will be given some options
select the one which repairs LILO

reboot without CD, LILO should be repaired

just take things slowly when you do this and read each screen carefully

Oh wait, I remember, I did an ftp install via floppies.

Well, come to think of it, I have a 10.0 DVD somewhere, but I'm running 10.2

I'd rather not have to find it, and just use something via floppy.

Tried using Mandrake floppies, and when I press F1 for 'more options' it locks up.
'F2' works fine, but everytime for F1 it will lock up. Tried re-downloading the image and putting it on another floppy, no luck.
Also tried it from a 10.1 DVD, and it locks up.
It's always done this on me.

Need an image to make a boot floppy that will boot into my Mandrake configuration, so I can then re-configure my boot loader.
I'll take anything that can help me re-establish my MBR.

you don't happen to have any other cds of distros laying around, do ya? you could always try one of them.

I got it working.

I used my FTP floppies and just did an 'upgrade' and as there was nothing to upgrade I just altered my boot configuration and it exited.
