Repair Bad Hard Disk Sectors

Is there a utility that can repair damaged hard disk sectors? Something like the "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" option in Windows Check Disk?

Obviously fsck does not attempt this.

Huh ???.
Which filesystem ???. Did you read the manpage ???.
"badblocks" as a last resort, but better to allow fsck to call it for ext2/3.
