Removing Gnome apps without removing gnome desktop?

It's seems like everytime I try to unistall some program that is just clutter on my system, it wants to take the whole gnome desktop with it. Is there anyway to remove things like games, evolution, movie player, rhythmbox, Ekiga, Bittorrent download client, ect?

It depends on the distro you are using. I'm writing this from a Debian machine for which I installed just the gnome core, so I didn't get many apps at all. Other distros are built differently, so you may not be able to remove some of the apps without uninstalling all of the gnome desktop.
