remove rhel 6 install centos 6.3
 

i have windows 7 and rhel 6.0 installed in my system .. since i dont have rhn registration i cant update many packages
so i wish to change it to centos 6.3 i downloaded the centos 6.3 and loaded in a cd

but the cd does not boot at all
how do i completely remove rhel 6 and install centos
wat might be the problem ....

There's no real *need* to reinstall to get to be centos. You can convert rhel fairly simply:

as for the CD though, I'd initally guess you copied the image to disc as a file, not as a bootable disc image.

If you are not on mission critical machine then it is a simple matter to wipe the old garbage off with Dban (burn to a disc and boot from it) then install Centos 6 which is free and an exact copy of RHEL with support. Leaving old files on may be fine for running servers etc manned by experienced professionals but they DO cause headaches.

The first line in the migration guide is

Yes but the point was he couldn't boot the new CD.

What acid_kepwie said... Also, you can install Centos over the RHEL if you want, there's no need to remove RHEL first.
If you choose to re-use the RH partitions, Centos will re-format before install.

no i burned the iso file proberly i checked there are 16 files in my disk

I am also having this problem. Due to RHN_registration problem i am not able to install the vlc player to it.

@Gunjo If you are having licensing problems with RHEL then you should install Centos 6

Its free with good support, and is very stable. Compiling programs is straightforward and your VLC and othrs will work without a hitch.
