OP, since your post indicates you were using Ubuntu when you posted it, I'll throw in a couple of Ubuntu-based ideas:
Did you install the applets through the Ubuntu One or Synaptic Package Manager interfaces? Then you should be able to remove them the same way.
Did you install them as add-ons from a browser? If so, you should be able to remove them via the browser interface, though you might have to hunt a bit to find the right menu item for doing that.
In any event, when you post again, please include how you got them, as well as your distro. That will make answering your question much easier.
