Remoting into UBUNTU from Windows XP,can see screen but can not use it

Probally a stupid question, I setup my Windows XP laptop to remote into my other UBUNTU PC using TightVNC running on Windows XP. When I remote into the UBUNTU PC, I see the UBUNTU screen on my Windows laptop, however any commands I try to use is displayed on the actual UBUNTU PC, not on my Windows laptop...I just see the "spinning" circle under my mouse icon that just spins and spins?? I'm assuming that there must be some kind of 1 way communication going on and the UBUNTU PC is not sending anything back to the Windows laptop. Any settings or software I should try? I did install TightVNC for LINUX on the UBUNTU machine...did'nt help or hurt...same 1 way communication. Any help would be appreciated!

Are you allowing the traffic to pass through the firewall?

I quess I do not know what I am doing...yet! I turned off the NORTON 360 Firewall and am still not able to connect...not even the UBUNTU screen is comming up. I think I have to start over from square 1 and find a good site that will give me details on how to do this.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Robert
