remote installing software freeze
Hi there,
I tried finding my problem on google for a long time but i can't seem to find the solution. Im running debian linux, have sshd installed, i have wireless internet installed. I downloaded putty on my other windows xp computer also ssh secure shell for remote access to the server. Im trying to install steam remotely, i looked up the guide and everything runs fine, but at a random percentage of installing suddenly the install hangs on a percentage, it has been hanging on 29% it has been hanging on 12% all at random. Everytime i try to run the install again it hangs somewhere else. killing the command is no problem. Maybe you would say i need to wait but ive been waiting an hour for one line, that is way to much. example of install: 76.55% .\hl2\sound\physics\glass\glass_impact_soft3.wav 76.58% .\hl2\sound\physics\glass\glass_impact_soft4.wav 76.61% .\hl2\sound\physics\glass\glass_impact_soft5.wav then freezes for ages. Installation works 100% fine when i run the command directly on the server. But since i need to rely on remote access in the future this is not always an option. I also notice that the direct installations seem to run much faster then i try it remotely. ive installed screen and tried to make a screen, detached myself from screen log off. And found out 1 hour later that it was hanging again when i reattached myself on the screen. So i know it's not a dissconnect issue between client and server at least. Does anyone have an idea what this problem might be? I would really appriciate the help. |
In these cases I try using "strace" for running the command and seeing... but this is very boring, so I tell you, maybe the problem is that the remote host is trying to connect somewhere, the only thing I could guess is that the DISPLAY variable is set in some weird way or something similar... does someone else have some easier hint?
