LinuxQuestions.org - Remote Desktop: Managing my CentOS 6 server with my laptop (need guidance)

Greetings, fellow Linux users. This is my first post in what I hope will be a nice and enjoyable learning experience about the most useful operating system in existence.

For starters, I am not a completely "newbie." I know how to navigate through the ins and outs of Linux and I am not in the least intimidated by it.

Now I start with my problems:

I am trying to control a server that I recently acquired utilizing a Dell Inspiron Laptop running the Win7 64 bit. My server is a HP Proliant 380 G4.

The laptop and the server are connected to a 16 port Netgear Stackable Hub. The Hub itself is connected to a router, which is connected to a DSL modem.

Since my server is running the CentOS 6 flavor (full distribution [includes most packets]), I go to the "Remote Desktop Preferences" (Krfb) GUI application. Under "Sharing," I set both allow user to view and allow user to control Desktop. I also set the "Configure Network Automatically to Accept Connections." Next, I turn off IPtables and the firewall.

The server (which I am currently on), can connect to the internet.

Krfb displays the message that my computer "is only reachable through the local network. Other can access your computer using the address [ADDRESS IPv4].

I move to my laptop, and open the Win7 "Remote Desktop Connection."

Type the computer address stated above and click on "Connect."

After two seconds, Windows displays a very generic and uninformative error prompt stating that:

"Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
1) Remote acess to the server is not enabled (it is)
2) The remote computer is turned off (it is not)
3) The remote computer is not available on the netowrk"

I would love some guidance in order to make this work.
