Remote desktop


Anyone know a method to connect to a fedora box visualy via a windows machine ?

Install tightvnc and run a vncserver on the fedora box, and use the windows tightvnc viewer to view that server.

One quick question, what desktop would u recomend, Gnome or KDE ?

Something lighter than either of those, if you're about to bring it over the network. XFCE, Fluxbox, ...

Woot - If you're gonna do the remote thing.. You can also use X11 forwarding if you enable it in putty which will allow you to access all your X applications from a remote shell connection.

I would definitely recommend KDE. I actually find it more user friendly than Windoze.

I use Cygwin on my XP Box here at work to access my machine at home. I just start a cygwin session, then start an Xwindows session, then connect to my remote machine via ssh. (ie: ssh -Y -l ...)

Then I can run any XWindows apps remotely with control and display here at work...

I was doing that for a while, but I think freenx is much faster.
