Reinstalling Windows, will Grub go away then?

Well, time for me to reinstall windows xp again, I was wondering if grub will go away when I reinstall winXP or will it still be there so I dont need to change anything except reinstalling winXP?

Best Regards

Yep - Windows overwrites the MBR, so if that's where your Grub resides, it will go.

At that point, you will need to boot from your Linux bootdisk (or your install cd) and reload grub.

Oddly enough, though, I reinstalled Win2K without it blowing away the boot loader. I think that was a frek occurence though.

What if your boot loader isn't on the MBR?

I think the other option is to put it on the same partition as your Linux OS or something. (Is that right?)

but if it's on your linux partition and you're on dual boot - you can't boot into linux - only windows...

Oh Okay. That was something that apparently I knew (or more likely had someone tell me) when I installed it, because I do have it on the MBR, I was just wondering if it would be wise to switch next time I reinstall. I guess not.

Thanks.
