reinstall mysql - now apache will not start

Hello,
I have removed a version of mysql and then I installed mysql 4.0.22 by rpm. I reconfigured php and then tried to restart my server. Now I'm receiving the message below when I try to start apache:

httpd failed to start. The error was : Starting httpd: Syntax error on line 261 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf. Cannot load /etc/httpd/modules/libphp4.so into server: libmysqlclient.so.14: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory [FAILED].

I'm not sure what this means and I don't know what part of apache, php or mysql is not working. I can start mysql but I cannot access it. I receive a "Cannot find temp.sock" error when I try to connect to it. Thank you all in advance for your knowledge and time!

Which version of PHP are you using?

Also, did you compile PHP from source? If you took away the version of MySQL PHP was compiled against things like what you are seeing could happen. You could try editing your php.ini file (usually in /usr/local/lib) and disabling the mysql support in there. If Apache starts after you've done this then you'll know the problem was coming from the PHP/MySQL combo.

Thank you very much for your help! My php version is 4.3.8 and I looked at the php.ini file but I'm not sure where exactly I can edit it to disable mysql within it.
