Reformating linux
 

I'm probably going to reformat linux pretty soon and then reinstall it on a smaller partition. Actually, I forgot my password for it so I have no use for the 60GB it takes up on my disk. I rarely used it since my favorite proggraming language is Windows only. Anyway, right now my comp is starting up with GRUB. I'm pretty new to using bootloaders etc, but I want to know if I can uninstall linux and then boot to windows by default. How would I do this? I don't even know where GRUB is stored. On the drive I have for linux I have a 20 GB shared partition, a 102 mb partition (who knows) , a 55 GB partition for linux, and another unknown 1 GB partition.

If you have a bootable Windows CD, you can boot into the Recovery Console (2000/XP) and run "fixmbr", or run "fdisk /mbr" (Win98/ME).

You can change or delete your password by editing /etc/passwd and or /etc/shadow (or do an update with your cd's).

well...unless you mean it'll screw the linux mbr, fixmbr doesn't render a partition unbootable.....

of course, it is completely possible that I am 100% mistaken.

Grub most likely resides in your MBR...

Reclaiming the passwords is reasonably esay,
but if you are about to repartition anyway you
can just delete all partitions (either from the XP
installation process or from the rescue CD).

Out of curiosity, what's your favourite windows-
only programming language? :}
