Maybe nothing -- have you done an MD5SUM on your ISO's? If not, check them. If the numbers don't match, that's your problem. On a different topic, if what you're really saying is that you put the CD in the machine and then are trying to boot from it but the PC just starts up normally, maybe the issue is just with your BIOS sequence. Change it so that it goes to the CD before the HD. -- J.W.

To run an md5sum, all you need to do is enter the command:

md5sum filename.iso (where filename.iso is the actual file name)

The output will be a long string of letters and numbers; you will need to confirm that it matches the corresponding value for the particular disk you are checking. More info about this process can be found here: http://www.redhat.com/download/howto_download.html -- J.W.

I don't know. Enter it as a search and see. Fraid I don't do XP. Or just enter it and see what happens. It can't break anything.

Dude - Yes. Most Linux vendors assume any prospective customers are currently running Windows, so the d/l sites support Windows. My personal experience is that I was using XP, got tired of it, wanted to try Linux, d/l'd RedHat v8.0, installed it, liked it, tried Slack, loved it, never looked back. So, Yes, you can do a checksum under XP. Go for it -- J.W.

what do you mean by "extracted from the iso's"?
the iso image get's burned to the cdrom as a filesystem.
you didn't copy the files out of the iso, and then burn them did you?
