RedHat AS 3.0: Minimize memory(RAM) usage

Hello,

I have just installed RedHat AS 3.0 on my IBM Thinkpad T40. My ultimate goal is installing Oracle software on this machine and at the same time learn about Linux and Oracle sysadmin stuff.

I have about 512 Mb of RAM and I was wondering if there are any processes/daemons running (in linux) on the laptop that can be safely stopped in order to reduce the memory utilized by RH and thus have more memory available for Oracle. Kind of like stopping some services in Windows.

Any pointers etc. are most welcome.

Manish
