redhat 9 and grub

I lately installed the redhat 9 (shrike) on a p4 machine.
It's the unique OS.

So when grub runs it offers to me 2 choices

1)linux-kernel.... with a suffix
2)linux-kernel....

What the first option stands for (by the way if i choose the 1) then the eth0 is not loaded)

and do you know how to get rid of from the 1st option?

Thanks in advance.

any idea?

Does that suffix have 'smp' in it somewhere?

Its my understanding that this is for multi-processor systems.

For changing boot options...look for grub.conf in /etc

/etc/grub.conf or /boot/grub/menu.lst ?

I don't remember well the suffix now, but the important is that the eth0 is dead when boots with this option.
