Redhat 9.0 installation problems on Sata HDD
 

we got new intel motherboards (865GBF) and Seagate 200 Gb SATA HDDs. and
we are encountering a problem. the BIOS is recognising the CDROM drive and
the SATA Port 0 hard disk ..but when we try to install the OS (Redhat
Linux 9.0) it says that hard disk is not present. the legacy setting in the BIOS has been chosen. but we are unable to overcome this problem. i am a total
novice with hardware and i require help very urgently.

I too have had problems with s-ata.
The problem is RH9 as far as I know. The kernel for this distro has no support for s-ata disks. You should try a newer rh like Fedora core 2, or if you can get the help of an expert, (or if you are brave!) compile a newer kernel for you RH 9. The newer kernels such as 2.6.8.1 have S-ata support.

Thanx for the prompt reply. but i am not brave enuf to compile the kernel myself. what i wanted to know now is that is other linux distributions are s-ata compatible and if so, which ones .. and again which of those support cluster computing.?

I had installed RH 9.0 :

When you boot with RH disk one, try this :

1/ linux dd hde=noprobe hdg=noprobe

2/ Installer ask you floppy containing SATA driver (You have to get the drive on seagate web site)

The installation continue with your recognised SATA HDD.
