Redhat 8.0 does not detect my monitor
Ok,
I have installed redhat 8.0 and try to start xwindows using xstart. An error message is displayed: " No screen detected" or something along those lines. My monitor is an Eizo FlexSan L565. It is a LCD monitor. I am also using the digital connector. [edit] ok tried the analog connector and it does not work either. My Graphics card is an Albatron Ti4200. How can i configure the monitor and get xwindows running? Thanks in advance gadgetboy |
Remember: it usually best to boot up to level 3 without a GUI and start at the command line.
Log in as your normal user. Then you're going to want to do this: su password: xxxxxxxx Then run: xf86config Next, you'll be presented with a series of menus. You'll be asked a few questions about your display hardware, but most importantly, you'll be given the opportunity to specify exactly (hopefully your monitor will be listed) your monitor type. Don't fret if you don't at first find your exact monitor type. You should be able to configure it with a generic monitor type that closely matches yours. In the worst case you can go to your monitor's manufacturer's website and get the exact specs on it. Good luck. |
I have done as you said. The xf86config file was altered and i used the manufacturers horizontal and vertical sync values.
xwindows starts after typing startx but the screen is all over the place. It is all off screen and out of proportion. I have tried to manually adjust the graphic position using the monitor controls, but everything is still out of place. What settings do you think I have wrong? Thanks in advance gadgetboy |
I have now managed to configure the screen, after re-installing linux and setting the sync values in manually.
Thanks very much for the help. gadgetboy |
