I think its a problem with compatibilty, not sure. Anyways If any of you could help that would be great! Oh and i really dont know what to post to help solve the problem. So just ask and ill post what you want to know.

You'll probably be better off if you list what kind of soundcard you're using.

Intel Corp. 82801AA AC'97 Audio
Ive tryed ALSA but I cant seem to get it working right.

I checked Intel's page and they say that it should be "i810 audio".
su to root, and then type lsmod and see if it lists a sound module. Let me know what it says.

Module Size Used by Not tainted
i810 74488 1
i810_audio 23008 0 (autoclean)
ac97_codec 11904 0 (autoclean) [i810_audio]
soundcore 6692 2 (autoclean) [i810_audio]
cdrom 32192 0 (autoclean) [ide-cd]

There is eveything that looks like it has to do with sound modules

I'm not sure what's wrong. I figured the driver wasn't getting loaded, but it appears to be. Someone more knowledgeable will probably be able to answer your problem. Sorry.

can you play mp3s with xmms? what desktop enivornment are you using? try checking your mixer settings, making sure you have the sound server checked to start up on login, and if you have sounds enabled for stuff like closing windows, logging in, logging out, etc. you could also try sndconfig in the command line.

Im on KDE with Fluxbox. And its somthing about "pcm". I get a crackling noise when i play any kind of audio that uses that. sndconfig says eveythings fine, the test sounds plays but .mp3 .wav .ogg etc dont work(all crackly) What commands/config file hold the sound server at startup?

Just thought I would say I fixed it. All i had to do was install the new OSS modules :)
